FAQ

What is Chinese Medicine?

Chinese medicine is a very powerful, ancient system of preventive and curative care, which promotes health and longevity by balancing and reinvigorating the body’s innate capacity to heal. Its therapeutic benefits have been tested over thousands of years and continue to be validated today. Chinese Medicine is mostly known to alleviate pain but in fact it treats a wide range of diseases, and is increasingly being integrated with more conventional Western therapies to address complex and difficult-to-treat conditions.

Holistic Approach Centered on You not the Disease

Chinese Medicine follows a holistic approach to healing. It views the individual as an integral and continually interacting part of the surrounding environment.Mental states, environmental factors, diet and lifestyle are regarded as interdependent elements influencing health & healing. Chinese Medicine believes that illness or the deterioration of well-being ensue when the natural flow and balance of Qi, Life Energy, is disrupted. In Chinese Medicine healing is properly understood as a return to your (Mind-Body-Spirit) Wholeness.

Chinese Medicine focuses on restoring your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness by rebalancing the flow of your Life Energy at all levels of your Being.

Diagnostic Methods and Treatment Plan

An in-depth evaluation and diagnosis of your Health Profile and Goals is derived using four basic diagnostic methods: inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry and palpation, with tongue/pulse diagnosis and a scanning of your Chakra system as its key elements. The case history, symptoms and signs gained through this thorough assessment are analyzed and generalized to find the root causes, nature and interrelations of any energy imbalance. A treatment plan will be developed and continually adjusted accordingly.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a practice intended to balance the flow & distribution of the vital energy, Qi, within the body’s meridians and channels. In Chinese Medicine, illness is viewed as Qi being stuck, depleted or weakened. Using very fine and painless, sterile and disposable needles on specific acupuncture points and areas of the body, a treatment session can promote healing by stimulating the movement of Qi back to its natural flow, removing any obstructions, and addressing the root cause of any imbalance.

Benefits of Acupuncture

No matter what the condition being treated, a session of Acupuncture always provides a sense of well-being. Acupuncture treatments strengthen the immune system, harmonize hormonal imbalances, benefit psycho- emotional well-being, and decreases levels of stress, anxiety and depression.

What does Acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is widely known for its effectiveness in treating pain-related conditions (arthritis, back, neck, knee and shoulder pain, carpel tunnel syndrome). It is considered a key intervention in addressing pelvic floor pain.

Clinical trials have increasingly demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture as a therapy capable of treating a wider variety of issues including gynecological/genitourinary, circulatory, immune, respiratory, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. Acupuncture can also be used to treat diabetes, dermatological disorders, promote weight control and stress reduction as well as offset the negative side-effects of chemotherapy and radiation.

Acupuncture and Pain Management

Pain in Acupuncture is always synonym of stagnant energy and blood. Acupuncture treatments for pain aim at restoring the normal flow of vital energy throughout the body. Inserting the needles through the muscles and connective tissues frees up the normal flow of blood, energy and nutrients, by releasing myofascial and musculoskeletal constrictions. As a result, all other major systems of the body (nervous, arterial, circulatory and lymphatic), are also stimulated and can thus communicate more freely. This explains how an Acupuncture treatment can help you not only find relief from pain but also achieve optimal health, vitality and well-being.

Acupuncture and Pelvic Floor

Chinese Medicine holistic approach offers a broader diagnostic system which helps develop an appropriate treatment plan for most conditions associated with the pelvic floor region. The most effective Acupuncture treatments tend to utilize not only the Primary Meridians but also the 8 Extra and the Divergent Systems, the latter particularly allow direct access to the relevant organs to release any obstruction. The focus of each session is to move and nourish energy along the affected meridians, releasing tension and nourishing the muscles, tendons and nerves, as well as address any other imbalance. Acupuncture sessions are often supported with Moxibustion therapy.

Treatment Modalities

Moxibustion is a warming-moving Qi technique using the herb Mugwort. Moxa is famous for its extraordinary medicinal properties: it increases blood circulation, boosts energy levels and the immune system, and stimulates the function of the digestive system. Moxibustion makes any Acupuncture treatment more effective and deeply relaxing.

Moxibustion is used for a variety of health conditions. Since moxibustion is warm and dry it is used in certain health issues where there are deficiencies of energy such as chronic fatigue syndrome as well as certain types of IBS disorders and diarrhea. Moxibustion is very beneficial in treating arthritic conditions as well as joint pain when the pain is predominantly worse in cold or damp weather. Moxibustion is also used in woman’s health disorders such as infertility, ovarian cysts and menstrual cramps. It is also beneficial in improving poor sperm motility and impotence. Moxibustion is also a popular technique used for breech presentations.

Cupping

This ancient therapy uses suction cupping on your skin. Cupping is a very effective modality to relieve pain and inflammation. It also promotes blood and Qi circulation, relaxation and well-being. It can be seen as a very deep-tissue massage. The suction action of the cups creates a vacuum which makes your blood vessels to expand, your skin pores to open helping your body remove stagnant energy and toxins, promoting healing. The purpose of cupping is to promote circulation of new blood and energy through your body, relieve pain, and remove stagnant energy and toxins that linger in your body’s muscular tissues. Cupping is an effective therapy to treat the flu, colds, coughs, back and muscle pain, poor circulation, anxiety, red itchy skin conditions, allergies, fevers and more.
